BAB LANGUAGE:
A RESIDENT FINED,
At the local Court this morning, before Mr Dyer, S.M. a young,man named Rutter was charged with using obscene language in a public place, and also with using threatening and abusive .language in a public place.
• Mr Hawkins appeared for the accused, who was-not present, and entered a plea of guilty.
• Constable Stagpoole said the offence was committed on the night of August'l4th, when the accused was getting his horse from a livery stable. He was under the influence of liquor at the time.
Mr Hawkins said his client had had a few glasses tqo much when he used the language complained of. Pie did not remember having offended, and was Very contrite, and in view of the fact that he was a hardworking man, who had never been charged with any offence previously, he asked His Worship to deal with the matter leniently.
The Magistrate said he would take into consideration that the accused bore a good character, and had not used the language within the hearing of women, but if he came before the Court again he would be'dealt with severely. A fine of £1 on each, charge would be imposed, with costs 7s and 10s respectively.
