HARBOR BOARD

The monthly' meeting l of the Tauranga Harbor Board was held in the Coronation Hall on Wednesday, when there were present: Messrs J, Davidson (in the chair), D. Grant, C. Lally, H, J. Gill, T. Stuart, J. C. Adams, G. V. Stewart, H. Southey and Colonel Ward. New Member Mr J. Griffiths intimated that Mr C. Lally had been appointed to fill the extraordinary vacancy on the Harbor Board for the constituent district of Maketu and Te Puke Ridings. The Chairman' welcomed Mr Lally on behalf of the Board, Mr Lally, in responding, said it would be his earnest endeavor to advance the interests of the Board. Blockhouse Reserve The Department of Lands, Auckland,, wrote re section 215, Apata Parish. The latter stated that the Board's application will receive due consideration, and a definite decision will be communicated as soon as possible. Observance of By-Laws The Dominion Shipping Co., Ltd., Auckland, wrote stating they have noted the Board's remarks re the clause pertaining specially to them, and said that they will ask their captains to render the Board* every assistance in maintaining the by-laws as all charges are to be collected

from the Company's captains. Marine Lights The Acetone Illnminating and Welding Co.,' Napier, forwarded particulars re-marine lights. - Held over. Harbormaster's Report. The Board went,into Committee to consider the report. It was decided that the Harbormaster be instructed to take legal proceedings against the next delinquet who was discovered running his boat without lights. Bill. An account for £9 5s 3d was received from the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce. This consisted of £3 5s 3d, cost of advertising the Harbor Board Bill,, and £6, half; of the delegate's expenses to Wellington to defend the Bill in its entirety against the opposition of the Katikati delegate. § Messrs Grant and Stewart objected fto the payment of the account. Messrs Southey- and Lally favored the payment. Mr Stuart said the question seemed to be a legal one. The Chairman moved-That a legal opinion be taken as to the validity of the two items. - Seconded by Mr Lally and carried. Notice of Motion Mr Stewart's notice of motion re placing an export.duty on.timber t was ruled out of order by the Chairman, as the standing orders implied that no rejected motion of the same purport be again entered upon the order paper until six calendar months had expired.
