AN UP-TO-DATE BUTTER FACTORY
During their recent visit to 'Opotiki the railway delegates availed themselves of the opportnnity of inspecting the new butter factory, which lias just been completed, and we are indebted to Mr Morton for the following particulars of the building', which is described as one of the mor.t up-to-date in the Worth Island. It is built of ferro-concretc throughout, the exterior being rough-faced, and the roof covered with red tiles. Inside, the walls are fifteen feet eight inches high, and are tiled about half-way up. There are three ferro-concretc cream vats, coppered inside, and tiled outside. The cooling room has two chambers, with a connecting door, the smaller chamber being used for local butter, which can be taken from it daily without interfering with the temperature of the larger room, which is kept for export butter. •The comfort of the staff has not been overlooked, a concrete bathroom having been fitted up for their convenience. A large concrete tank divided into three compartments, ■ stands outside the factory, one division being capable of holding 8,500 gallons of water, the second 2500 gallons of skim-milk, and the third 2000 gallons of butter-milk-. The Company has already sold 200 boxes of butter a month to March 31st, at Is f.o.b. Auckland.
