Preferential rates given to Gerrnar. manufactured goods by British shipping companies were strongly condemned by the Agricdtura! Conference at Wellington. It was pointed oat by Sir Walter Bjchanan that German goods were land ad in tho Dominion at Jess freignt charges than British goods shipped from London. The only remedy ha ouldsuggest was to increase the preferential cha'/ge against such g)ods. At present the preferential tariff was quite nullified by such metho Is as were practised by shipping companies. The conference resolved, "that the Premier be asked to consider the wisdom of giving increise ! preference to a] British mtnufacturers, soeing'tlvit the preset ;"reference is discoaatcd by various shipping cunpi.iiss carrying G?ni ;n ni mufacturas and goo:ls from London at lower rates than British manuf ic throw's goods.
