SMALL-POX IN SYDNEY.
FIFTEEN THOUSAND VACCINATED. Sydney, July 7. Thirty-eight patients are in hospital at the quarantine station, none of the cases being serious. Sixty-seven convalescents and contacts are also detained there. Vaccination is proceeding apace and 9,500 have been treated by the health authorities, while it is estimated that six thousand have been vaccinated privately. Sixteen [nevv cases have been quarantined since Saturday. The outbreak has been traced t® the arrival in April of a steward aboard the steamer Zealandia who, unknown to himself, was suffering from the disease, contracted probably at Vancouver. During his sojourn in Sydney he was often in the company of a lady friend employed at a Redfern clothing factory. Soon after the vessel's departure the lady became ill.
