THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
A REPLY TO RECENT REQUESTS. Mr Tees, Secretary to the local Chamber of Commerce, has received the following letterfrom Mr W. D. S. Macdonald, M.P., in reply to various resolutions passed at a recent meeting of the above body Sir, ~ I have interviewed the Hon. the Minister for Public Works on the following matters, and enclose his reply : Re authorising line from Paengaroa •to Rotorua—This matter will have consideration in the event of an authorising Bill being brought down. As regards the erection of goods sheds at Te Puke and the Mount, provision at both places is being made. ' Carrying Passengers between Te Puke and the Mount—The difficulty that has existed in the past in carrying passengers and goods from the Mount to Te Puke is owing to the continued subsidence of the line through the Swamp, and in consequence of this it has not been deemed safe to cany passengers. The difficulty is now pretty well overcome, and the Engineer-in-Chief states that both passengers and goods will shortly be carried. Railway Authorisation, Paengaroa to Matata—The line has already been authorised for eight miles beyond Paengaroa, and steps will be taken for further authorisation later on.—Yours faithfully, W. D. S. Macdonald.
