BURGLAR SCARE IN SYDNEY.
A HOUSEHOLDER WOUNDED Sydney, May 7. There has been a recurrence of the burglary ■ boom in Sydney, and frequent daring robberies have taken part in the city and suburbs. Last night Mr Overton, proprietor of the Tyne Laundry, at ! Manly, was awakened by the presence of a burglar in, his, bedroom. He grappled with the in- : truder and a fierce fight ensued. ' The burglar fired his revolver, and wounded Mr Overton in the neck. The latter, in spite of the wound, continued the struggle. The burglar again fired, and inflicted a wound in Mr Overton's ■ stomach. Mr Overton retained his hold and was dragged into the passage, whore th<> burglar shook himself free., and departed with £20 worth of jewellery. Ed the home of a railway i ployee, who was absent at work; He forced the man's wife at the point of a revolver, to accompany him from room to room, while he made a search for booty. His only reward was the absent husband's supper, which he ate before leaving.
