DULY QUALIFIED ROGUEBY.

An example of the extortion practised by some medical men has been communicated by -a country correspondent. Towards the end of last year the daughter of a settler in the Wade district was in a dying condition, and a messenger was despatched post haste to bring up a doctor. The medical man in question, unlike the majority of his profession, could not boast the possession of a horse or buggy. A horse was offered by the messenger, but the doctor preferred a buggy, which was hired for him at a cost of £2. He reached the Wade too late to save the patient, stayed at the house all night aud was hospitably entertained, and returned home next morning. "When asked for his account he cooly demanded £10, in addition to the buggy hire and some £2 for medicine. No agreement had been made, he took advantage of it, and there was nothing for it but to comply with his extortionate demand.
