WHAT SHALL I GIVE MY LOVE?
(Written for the Observer.)
I have no gems to offer thee — "My beautiful, my own," And yet I give ,to the a crown And rear to thee a throne. Thou may'st not walk in silk attire • With glittering rubies fair, Or' diamonds shine, with rays divine, Amid thy raven hair.
I have not wealth, nor castles grand, Nor princely halls are seen ; "But where a honest bosom reigns Thou shalt be ever queen. In lieu of rubies for thy hair I'll gather woodland gems, And weave a wreath of violets fair To make thy diadems.
And poor indeed are those who wear A gilded crown of care. "Thy heart shall beat, in love songs sweet, And I a captive there. And richer gift thro' all the earth Yet never deck'd a throne : I give to the a loving heart, " My beautiful, my own." W. R. Wills.
