The tea and concert in the Kaiwaka schoolhouse was a great success. An excellent tea was' provided by Mesdames Littin, Leslie, and | -Prince. Mr. Jones, of Auckland, presided. j The meeting broke up about 9 o'clock, when the commodious school-house was cleared for dancing, which was kept, up with great zest till an early hour in the morning. The music was ably provided by Messrs T. Neho and C. Littin. Mr C. Cameron officiated as M.C. The dresses worn by the ladies were very becoming, and displayed good taste. The Misses It., in black velvet, looked exceedingly charming. To name the belle among such a fine display of beauty was a very difficult task, but Miss Thornton and Miss Bowmar have the highest claims. Several songs were sung at intervals between the dances. At a wedding last week the bride wore a corsage and train of white broehe velvet over a skirt of corded white silk, ornamented with lace, flounces and embroidered with pearls ; wreath of natural orange blossoms : beautiful bouquet. The bridesmaids wore pink satin bodices, with cream lace skirts ; coronets of pink plush and marabout feathers, with tulle veils looped up with heath; handsome bouquets. Mrs Welsh looked well in a grey satin and cashmere dress : a broehe mantle, trimmed with a darker shade of marabout ; and a ruby velvet bonnet with red shaded feathers. The bride's sister wore a costume | of cardinal embossed velvet and cashmere; i light cardinal brocaded silk, edged with old gold lace ; a cardinal toque. A concert and dance in aid of the Onehunga Brass Band eventuated in the Temperance Hall on Thursday evening, and proved a financial success. The singing does not call _ for any special praise. As usual, the ladies mustered in large numbers to enjoy the dauce. The following are a few of the most noticeable dresses worn : — Miss Bray, check sateen, silver jewellery (looked very nice): Miss Sheldrick, pink sateen, silver jewellery; Miss Gardiner, white muslin, blue trimmings; Miss Higgins, white nmslin; Miss E. Bray, flowered satin cloth, silver jewellery ; Miss Patten, skirt, forrestry pattern, velvet bodice ; Miss Boyd, pink sateen dress, satin trimmings, silver jewellery, carried off the honours of. belle j after a neck and neck race with Miss Bray. The hall, which is situated' upstairs, was in capital order for those who chose to indulge in the light fantastic toe. About 20 couples sat down to an excellent supper, which was laid out downstairs in the lurge dining-hallj .and. was a credit to Mr Moore, who was the •caterer for the occasion.
