AQUATIC NOTES.

liv " Mud-Hook." The Madge, .sailed by Johnny Harrison of

the Wairoa whale boat crew, won the All Corners 1 Sailing race at Pahi on the 21st. The prize was £10. Fay, which since rolled over in crossing the channel at Kaipara Heads and drowned poor Alick Murphy, was second. No account lias ever been sent to an Auck-

regatta splendidly arranged and carried out, but the hospitality of the Wairoans to the visitors from Auckland was something to be remembered. In fact one of my informants says emphatically that they are a" lot of " adjectived" — good fellows up there. Mr A. 11. Jones' well-known 20-footer Dream won the open boat race from Jka, Madge and Mascotte. S. Dove sailed the winner in his usual skillful way. He was also winning the yacht race, but tlie owner of the craft took him up a short cut, and he went ashore^ The prize for the open boats was a very liberal one, and shows up strongly against the miserable sums given in Auckland for what are undoubtedly some of the most exciting events on the programme. Up there in a bush country, with a scattered population, they give £20. Our committee, with ten or more entries, only give £10. Advance Wairoa ! As this journal publishes on Friday's, I am debarred from giving notes and anticipations on the regatta in this issue. My tips, however, appeared in the Telephone on Wednesday night, and I hope to be able, next week, to say that I was on or near it a few times.
