DIVIDED.
Mama to Alex.
Must I ever vainly pray ? Shall we ne'er be one again ? Must we, as we are to-day, Strangers to the end remain ? Vainly vowed we nought but death Ever should our lives divide ; Scandal's deadly, tainted breath J Power has had. to part us Tide. ■/ Wander on the earth, we twain, To remorseful grief a prey, Dragging each a broken chain, Parting wider every day. Oh, my darling ! cum again, Let us mend the bi'oken tie, Ease mo of this Aveaiy pain, Hear me, luve me, or I die ! Let the sever'd links unite, Bid the fainting faith revive ; Bid the cruel, poisonous blight Pass and .leave our love alive. *" Let us veil the bitter past, .And be found, whate'er betide, 3 Holding each the other fast, Heart to heart- a.ud side by side. ifff [The above is sonh to; us as an original [I^' poem. We can only^conclude that the l^ writer is in a -very '^&way indeed. — Ed. y; ° BS O W
