LLBERALITY OF THE AUCKLAND TIMBER COMPANY.
Too much praise cannot bo given to the Directors of the Auckland Timber Company, for the handsome manner in which they behaved to Superintendent Hughes, the members of the Fire Brigad Q , and the seamen of the U.S. warship Iroquois. The merit of the act is heightened by the fact that the Company were heavy losers by the fire ; but the example is one worthy of being followed in other quarters, as it serves to keep up the esjwit de corps of the Brigade, and to stimulate them to energetic and courageous efforts in saving life and property. Perhaps I may be pardoned for the suggestion that the police and the Salvage Corps, are also not undeserving of some substantial recognition at the hands of the Company, as I am sure the omission is only duo to forgotf illness, and will be promptly rectified, now that attention is called to it.
