M. Gfounod is said to ,be malting rapid progress with a new lyric drama. The subject dealt with is Laiuartine's " Jocelyn." Sign or Ponchielli, the composer of "La Gioconda," has just completed a new opera entitled " Marion Delornie." A rich American, at present in Berlin, has offered a million dollars to the heirs of Wagner for the entire performing right of "Parsifal." It was refused. Mr Joseph Eennett has adapted M. Massenet's new opera "Manon," and it will be the Christmas novelty of the Carl Bosa Company, with Madame Marie Eoze and Mr Joseph Maas in the leading roles. The great Viennese composer, Jean Strauss, has all but finished his opera ' ' Der Zigeunerbaron," which will be produced towards the end of November, at the An der "Wien. Theatre. Mr A. C. Mackenzie and Dr F. Hueffer have contracted to write for the Carl Eosa season of ISB6, a new English opera. The work is founded on the Provincale history of Gfuillaume de Cabestan, a gentleman of Eousillon, and a troubadour, who sang the praises of ladies. His last mistress, according to Jehann de Nostre Dame, was Iricline Carbonnel, wife of the Seigneur de Seillan, who, jealous of the troubadour, whom he had made his esquire, murdered him, tore out his heart, and made his wife eat it.
