A lady, accompanied by a small dog, went into , certain public .. department the other day on business. The official, who on ot'aer occasions, is wont to be excessively polite. to ladiesof a certain class, dashed out arniecT with a large ruler, and commenced to beat, the little lap-dog unmercifully, at the same time grossly insulting the lady, . who remonstrated with him on his brutal con,duct, She says she, only regrets that she was not accompanied either by her big brother ox a bigger dog.
