CONVERSATION LOLLIES.
It wos. a : gallant volunteer Who rashly left his martial sphere, The sawuey-hearted loon, And made acquaintance with a dear, And stalled on a spoon. He dressed himself as for parade, And, oh ! such sheen's eyes that he made, In regimental clo's, In fact, quite close attention paid Unto his darling Rose. He thought he had a certain mash on, And dressed in military Fashion, And other nyum-nyum follies ; And tried to ventilate his passion In conversation lollies. He wore a fierce aud desperate air, He midway parted up his hair, He his moustache would twirl, If any other soldier dare Approach the little girl. He'd dissipate in tuppenny tarts, And talk of Cupids and of darts, And swill some gi_iger v pops, Then, with a simple soldier arts, He'd buy some acid drops. Then came a smaller, meaner churl, One who had no moustache to curl, One of your hauci oox doilies, And straightway tliis ungrateful girl Forgot the soldier's lollies. She scorned his tuarti.il coat of red, She twitted his gi%ab clumsy tread, And Bniggered at ins pose, Refused point blank his wish to wed And wouldn't be ids. Rose. Now, this young nasent Bobadil, No longer lingers near her till, In doubtful, melancholics — No longer pays .i weekly .bill For conversation loiiies.
