THE EDUCATIONAL SQUABBLE AT HOKITIKA. i
There is a very pretty quarrel among the educa- ■ tional authorities at Hokitikaj' 'resulting in an* administrative" dead-lock; ' It, is alleged that the voting was 1 tampered within' the election of inemib.ersfor the Westlahd, Board of ? Education,' aiid' that the Board thus elected denied to the Hokitika School Committee a fair share 06 the funds., The* committee took the extreme step oi closing' the? school, and the inhabitants held an indignation' meeting at which all parties came iri ; for some rather warm denunciation; While the chairman of ' the Boai*d was speaking Mr Hudson shouted out " It's a lie," and at a later stage he called the speaker " a dancing monkey." Mi* Bevan declared that the chairman had " acted like a shuffler," that other members had "pocketed monies belonging to the Board," and that the chairman "possessed no qualifications but impudence." A fourth orator denounced the chairman as " a miserable trickster."
