' ■ „ "The object of this Compauy is to provide vessels to trade iv the directions already opened, and others which may from time to time ofl'cr inducements. There is ample room for a well-or?anised new line -:- between Auckland aud London, Liverpool and Glasgow, ■with New York, and with some of the larger centres Of Continental European trade. O£ course., the large and increasing export of balk and sawn timber will form an important adjunct, A trade witlfeSJasumnia, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, &c., beingirfre"udy established, could easily be continued with regularity ' •whilst the Newcastle and Greymouth coal trades should be also provided for. There is a vast field in prospective for a good trade .with America, Mauritius, China, Mannila, Calcutta, the , Cape, Noumea, and numerous foreign ports, with some of which, even at the present moment, a profitable direct trade is being- carried on in a desultory ■ manner, and which would find support from the new ■ industries • lately established here and in prospective ' •establishment. ; .. ;', The Company do not propose to limit themselves to -aruniiing- their own vessels, but will from time to time . charter vessels when required, in the event of their .-•own not being immediately available. ■"■•. "Messrs Stone Bros., who have for some time carried vOnagood shipping business, aud who have no tv fairly started a new London line, possess the nucleus of a fleet suitable for commencing- operations, and arrangements • iave been made to takeover their vessels and a goodwill of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand sis huudred and fifty pounds (30,650), they taking half the amount in Company's shares. Their fleet consisting of S vessels, with aggregate tonnage of .2642 tons, should be augmented as soon a.s possible, so that the business may be extended without delay, •especially the London and American branches. The services of Mr C. B. Stone, as managing director, and the staff at present under his control, who are experienced in this line oil business, have been secured to take office nnder tbe new Company. It is further proposed that the working expenses should he conducted on strictly economical principles, the expence'of agencies and branches to be defrayed out •of commissions 011 the actual freights earned by those ■branches. The proposed capital is set down at £150,000, but as • only a small portiou is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleec and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up until vessels •.suitable for the London and other trades may offer foi^sale at reasonable prices, until which time it is proposed to charter vessels as required to supplement the present fleet. It is proposed to invite all Auckland business-men -•and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. The Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compote most successfully with any outside or foreign company or foreign shipping. r The Company • could then not. fail to be a credit to our port, and a most lucrative investment to Shareholders. The promoters having every confidence in the success of the undertaking, now appeal to the public to insure ;it hy subscribing freely for shares. LIST OF VESSELS. Tons Register.
