MORE PORK.
It was at the palatial residence of one of our most respected and influential citizens. The occasion was a party, and the bon ton had assembled in great force. It was past the witching hour, and the last batch of guests were partaking of an excellent- supper. Amongst these were a fair sprinkling of the Lost Tribes of Israel, and it is almost superfluous to add that they were making great havoc amongst the edibles. As the different viands disappeared from view they became somewhat jolly, and commenced poking "borax "at one another,, much to the edification of the G-en tiles present, who so far, like the man who fell out of the balloon, were not in it. After a. lot of delicate innuendoes and insinuations had gone round the table, amidst much mirth, one of the " children " volunteered a remark to the effect that he had that day seen a most remarkable clock, its chief attribute being amongst other novelties, that it contained a bird, whose singing powers surpassed any of Dame Nature's handiwork. A voice from the end of the table asked if the bird were a canary. The answer was in the negative, and a second queried if it were a nightingale, with the same result. A tall Scot, who' xip to this time had been keeping a very backward position now came with a wet sail, and suggested, in very broad " Dunkirk " that " mayhap it were a mo'poke," at the same time slyly glancing at the remnants of a sucking pig that .were Negligently reclining on a dish close by.
