KAIPARA. STEAM COMMUNICATION.

A Maungaturoto correspondent writes : — Sir, " I think the settlers in the Kaipara district show a great lack of enterprise in the matter of steam communication. The Eaipara S.S. Company have done a great deal to meet the wants of the settlers, but the arrangements have been very faulty. The steamers go from place to place in search of passengers and cargo, dodging up this creek and that, and calling at the most out-of-the-way places, so that to get to one's destination, one is carried about by the most circuitous routes, quite out of the way, and subjected to an un-« necessarily long and trying passage. What is wanted is a small, light, quick steamer that would convey passengers direct to their destination from Helensville and I believe this could be easily managed if the settlers would combine to form a joint-stock company. The outlay would be comparatively small among so many, and even if the investment did not at first yield large interest, it would pay well indirectly in the shape of increased travelling facilities,, comfort, and saving in time. I trust this suggestion will be taken up by some of our wealthy and influential settlerg. It only wants some enterprising man to set the thing in motion. — I am &c, Settles."
