MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE.
During the past few days quite a sensational drama has been enacted in Queen-street. Mr Comrie, an old miser, who has amassed consider^ able wealth by extreme penuriousness, and who lived in frightful filth and squalor in a miserable hovel in West Queen-street, made a will some years ago through Mr Brock. Mr Oliphanfc subsequently induced Comrie to sign a codical and give him a power of attorney enabling him to administer the estate, and doing away with, three of the- four former executors. Subsequently one of the three executors induced Coinrie to revoke the power of attorney to Oliphant, and then technical difficulty arising, some of Conme's friends interposed and smuggled him away on pretence of treating him to a drive. He was placed in a furnished cottage in Ponsonby, thence removed to Onehunga, and then taken into the Waikato. It is alleged that Mr Comrie had given a power of attorney which enabled ojne of the parties to seize and dispoae of all his money
deposited in the banks, and that the friends^had no alternative but to smuggle the old man away to the country in order to remove him from improper influences.
