The popular Miss Hatchings has composed a •oalse brillante and dedicated it to Miss Bidwel], It is called " Daphne," and is extremely pretty, and a good one to dance to... Mr L. T. and Miss M. T. are to be con-ju-gal-ly ma-tri-inon-i-fied early in December. So are two or three others. Napier folks evidently know a thing or two since the rumour're the comet's coming movements — going in for the sun, etc. They are sharper than ever. One man wants to bet a hundred to one against it, and another young gentleman says he'll get married and pay for the furniture next November ; another fellow says by Jove, he'll get a bicycle, etc... Yes, really" B. looked quite

aesthetic with that bunch of grass in his hand on the Marine Parade on Sunday afternoon... H. T. has returned from his trip round, looking (so the girls say) more killing than ever. Happy man... The gallant H. and the jolly S. have gone into partnership (no, not of tarts)... T. H. looks remarkably well in his grey suit, so does W. in his brown... Mr T. GKlpin's song, " Wrecked and Saved," and Mr Monteith's song, " The G-erman Fifth," sung at the Spit concert, are among the things never to be forgotten. They were simply splendid. I was a leetle, just a leetle, disappointed with the rendering of the song, " The lass that loves a sailor.". . .The cynosure of all eyes is that rush hat as occasionally seen at St. John's Church... Who are the boss mean girls that occasionally play at eavesdropping behind or near the gaol gates ? Beware of the saw -listeners, etc.
