We now offer a prize of £1 (one pound) for the best original essay, of any length, on the question — " How to Manage a Lover, with a "View to Matrimony and a Happy 3?uttj2e." 1. The competition is open to ladies only, of any age. 2. Competitive essays must reach the Editor on or before the 29th instant, up to noon. 3. Competitors must write only on one side of the paper. Contravention of this rule -will involve disqualification. 4. Nom-de-'£lume to accompany essay, with name and address id separate sealed envelope. 5. Communications to be addressed Editor, Observer, Shortland-street, Auckland.
