Pavnell -dance next week. ■ The indefatigable Mr'Ludlow is the 'moving suirit 1 . SA very enjoyable evening was recently spent at, The ' Pah by a n'imiber of young, pepple. Miss Trollope, in. a lbvely shade of -pale blue, satin, was 'decidedly the belle. , ' ' . ' , Mr A.E. has written . ■ a local adaptation of "Patience," which is now. umier rehearsal by the jam-tarts of Uemuera. 'The performance is looked forward to with much interest, as 'some -of the amateurs, especially the, ladies, are not only charming, but play with much skill and, piquancy. The Onehuuga dance, although well attended, can -hardly ,be pronounced a success when the state of the floor is taken into consideration. Ladies largely predominated. The belle was very difficult ' to decide upon. Miss Watts, from Nelson, seemed to attract a great deal of notice, and Miss Ida Brookfield and Miss Gould, were in much request among the gentlemen. With one or two exceptions the Onehunga men .are not the most graceful of dancers, and bumps were frequent and heavy. The music supplied by Mr Eady's band was very satisfactory, as wa3 also the claret-cup brewed by the experienced and gallant Captain Daveney.
A very pleasant social gathering was held in the Temperance Hall on Friday evening last in honour of Mr T. Simms, of Newton, who left for Sydney in the mail boat on' Monday. A very enjoyable ■ programme was gone through, and dancing was kept tip till 2. a.m. Miss Edwards looked charming in cream and blue, and Miss Tapper also looked very nice in pale blue. Between the two the honour of belle was divided. Miss Peace, of Beresf ord-street, was decidedly the best dancer, while Mr Bothwell made rather a poor M.C."
