! As I went home the other night Late home went I . . . . A rather curious spectacle was on exhibition the other night. An individual, hailing from the Emerald Isle, was proceeding with his better-half in the direction of home, when on passing a certain hotel the gentleman spied aheap of bonded stores in the vicinity of the hotel. He made straight for the aforementioned stores, and after examining them attentively in a room of the hotel, the passers-by were alarmed by hearing a shrill voice scream, " Oh, Daniel," twice, and the sight seen will not soon be forgotten. Mr McLachlan — the man with the axe — was away from New Plymouth when Mr Breach arrived at the sensible conclusion to give up possession of the keys of the church. Immediately on his return, having apparently taken unto himself seven devils more wicked than himself, he sought the rev. gentleman, and upbraided him with his want of courage. They both proceeded to the secretary and demanded the keys back, who gave them up quietly. They now declare their intention of holding, service on Sunday. The secretary, however, has taken the precaution to obtain a fresh lock and key, and for the second time in the short space of a fortnight, has the sanctuary had the sounds of hammering, etc., proceeding therefrom. It is surmised that there will be a row on Sunday, and it is not improbable that we may have a repetition of the Manutahi calf affair, which ended sq disastrously for one of the individuals. — [I re-opsn my letter to state that the sequel of the Presbyterian " rumpus" is that at midnight on Friday the kirk broke out in flames, and was soon demolished. It was undoubtedly the work of an incendiary.]
