— The champion mean woman of Quartzopolis, who is the spouse of a gentleman drawing a' salary of £700 per annum, is -up to her old tricks again. The other day she was observed in the lady-like occupation of collecting the drift-wood which had been broue-ht down the creek near her residence, sans' boots, sans stockings, sans hat ! — The most unpopular man in up-country district is a diminutive aud consequential parsonbelonging to a well-known Dissenting body. This individual, inflated with the idea of his own importance, has rendered himself most obnoxious to almost every section of the community by interfering in the private affairs of the residents and behaving in a manner not at all calculated to inspire that reverence which is due to a gentleman of the cloth, and on more than one pecasion, lam informed, he has experienced a narrow escape of being ducked in the river by the exasperated settlers.
