DEAD AND ALIVE.

They have some very peculiar patients in the Hospital fx'om time to time, but the strangest of all created some surprise up there the other day. He was brought in a cab by several gentlemen, "who said he had met with an accident, which a local medico ■who had examined him, believed would have a fatal termination, and he had been sent there for the most careful treatment. The attendants carried him in tenderly, and placed him in one of the most convenient wards. His face was covered with blood, and to all intents and purposes he was a " goner." A message having been sent to the doctor, who was in another part of the building, informing him. of the accident, one of the nurses proceeded to sponge the bruised face, and in the course of his operations made several references in an audible tone regarding the various hurts. Seeing a piece of skin hanging from the man's under lip, he remarked as he placed his finger on the spot, " This will have to come off." The patient, who was believed to be at nearly his last gasp, sprang to his feet with a yell that shook the building to its foundation, and, hurling a volley of scorching curses at what he called the " the murdering villians who wanted to cut him to pieces," he fled from the spot before the attendants could recover from their surprise. When they next saw •him he was travelling over the brow of the hill as fast as his legs could carry him to the unbounded astonishment of every one. His friends took their departure very sheepishly, vowing that if Blank were killed outright, they, would not think of assisting the ungrateful dog again. <fr- ■
