The forehead is rather low- and narrows upwards, but docs not exhibit any of the prominent characteristics of a murderer. ' Winiata was also employed on Cleghorn'sfarm. Packer slept in' an outhouse, where he Was murdered by Winiata early in the morning, the deed being committed with a bill-hook. The body wa3 found by Mr Cleghorn and Master Stodard partially concealed under a stack •of timber. A grave had been dug in the furze, showing that Winiata intended tb hide the traces of his crime. His piirpose was however frustrated through, want of time. Winiata escaped to the King Country, and went about armed up to the time of his capture by the half-caste Barlow, a powerful man, „ standing over 6 feet in hieght. Barlow enticed Winiata. to his house, under pretence of buying his pigs, made him drunk, and, tying him across a horse, hurried him into Eihikihi and handed the murderer, over to tho police, by whom he was brought to Auckland.^
