THAMES TITTLE TATTLE
— Can anyone tell me when the rinking season opens at the Thames ? — Young Belcher, of Wanganui, has been ! " doing" the Thames during the week. He is on a visit to his sister. — It is said to be likely that Nat Brassey and his charming wife will shortly take tip their permanent residence at Hawera, Taranaki. —Mr W. A. Murray, of the Piako, ex-M.H.R. for Bruce, Otago, is said to be the largest shareholder byfar in the Thames Newspaper and Printing Company. — I hear that the Toole Dramatic Club have an entirely new piece in preparation, which will be produced at an early date. — Eumour hath it that one of our principal scholastic institutions is about to lose the services of a lady. It is said that a gentleman in the same profession in a remote country district, will shortly come to claim his bride. — Two archery meetings are held here weekly — "one taking place in Mrs Marshall's grounds at Parawai, and the other at Lady Dean's residence. Both are well patronised, the fair sex predominating at each, and much enjoyment is derived by the members. — A number of young men in Shorfcland hare formed themselves into a football club and will play a match with an Auckland team on the 24th yvox. I believe that Prank Hall, Wattie Thompson, " Monty" Christey, and Lynch (all good kickists) will be amongst the number. — In last week's issue I referred to the probability of an ea'posd in connection with a little scandal in which a certain gentleman of high standing figured pretty prominently. I now learn from a friend who is am fait with the particulars of the case that the lady has accepted a certain number of bawbees and agreed to shut her mouth for ever, — The first case of " boycotting" I have heard of in this province, and indeed in the Colony, has occurred in a small country township not fifty miles from Quarfczopolis, the victim being a storekeeper who at one time was in business at the Thames. It appears that the unfortunate individual has made himself obnoxious to a large section of the community in some way or other, and they have accordingly resolved not to patronise his establishment in any shape or /orm until he has again ingratiated himself into their good graces. In consequence of this harsh and ill-advised action the poor tradesmen is doing little or no business, and unless he makes the amende honourable will soon "go to the wall." _____^_______^__
Mt Angelo Forrest having giyen up tlie music warehouse in Queen-street, has re-commenced taking pupils for the organ, piano, &c., at his residence, Waterloo Quadrant. Mr Forrest is a musician of high repute, and former pupils speak of him in the highest terms."
