THE ROMANTIC ELOPEMENT.
We are glad to soy that the two young ladies of Ponsonby, whose vagaries were chronicled in last week's issue have returned, none the worse for their ill-considered trip. The hasty plan of elopement' appears to have been resolved ujjon entirely on the spur of the moment. The girls were seized with an irresistible longing to behold the wonders of the Christchurch Exhibition, and there were some other reasons of a family nature into which we refrain from entering. It appears that they did not sell the piano, as at first reported, but took it with them on board the s.s. Hawea at Onehunga, having taken their passages in the assumed name of Henius. We have been interviewed by one of the youny ladies, who informs us that the money and jewellery which she and her companion took away were their own personal property. During the passage to Ly ttelton they placed themselves under the guardianship of a fellow-passenger, who was a friend of bofch families, and occupied an official position which placed him above suspicion. The young ladies only remained at Ohristchurch for a few hours, took a run through the Exhibition, and then went on to Thnaru, where one of them was overtaken bj a brother, in whose charge the two truants returned home. They have become reconciled to their families, have received the kiss of forgiveness, and have again settled down into quiet, domesticated young ladies. All's well that ends well.
