PONSONBY REGATTA.
Action's Tips.
I AM again in the unfortunate position of having to write my anticipations for the Regatta before the entries are received, and consequently due allowance will have to be made for this fact. The rowing races will probably be very tame. It is a singular fact that we have three flourishing rowing clubs, and that, from some reason or another, only one or two at the most can send crews to compete. Amateur Scullers' Race— Tommy Farquhar, Alf. Jones, and Willie Farquhar are the only competitors I have heard of, and unless Jones takes first place, I think the race will finish in the order given. Small Yachts. — The Sybil is my selection for first place, with the Flying Fish second, and Maud third. Many people fancy Seager's new boat, but if there is much beating to be done, I don't think she will even place herself. All-comers' Gigs.— Ponsonby. Second - Class Sailing- Boats.—Notwithstanding the double victory of the Imp at Tauranga, I tip the Madge for first place, Imp second, Observer third, Hattie May fourth. Short and Douglas's Leon, Hewson and Melville's boat, or Bailey's Empress may cause a boil-over, but as I have not seen them out yet, I cannot speak with any degree of certainty regarding their capabilities. Senior G-igs.— Ponsonby, 1. Junior G-igs. — Ponsonby, 1. Bona Fide Fishing Boats. — Daisy, 1 j Lizzie, 2. First-Class Sailing Boats.— Magic, 1 j Shrimp, 2. Large Yachts. — Enterprise is my favourite for first place, with Jessie Logan second, and Sabrina third. Rob Rot Canoes.— King or Shaw. Third-Class Sailing Boats.— The Spray, Nellie, Imp, and Ward's boat should take the places. There should be about a dozen entries. Small Sailing Boats.— Olive, 1 ; Beryl, 2,
