— Signor Riccardi has been ill with scarlet ; . fever. . — Ethel Adelle is said to be nearly related to a baronet. — The Protean Butterflies (J. P. Hydes-ahd Company) appear at Christchurch during the'exliibitibn week. — Sarah Bernhardt paid a fine of £4,000 to the " National" Theatre in order that she might be free to make her Paris rentrie at the Vaudeville, nexfc December, in a new comedy by Sardou. ■ " - — Miss Carrie Q-odfrey will take a benefit on I the 14th at the Theatre Royal, in comic opera, etc,, f when she will be supported by artists of the Novelty -? Company, Herr Carl Schmitt, Angelo Forest and others. Mr Thompson will play some of his best cornet solos. This will be Miss Godfrey's last appearance prior to her departure for America. — Dean's Minstrels- open on Monday nigflit in a slashing programme, and are sure to attract a big house on this, their fourth anniversary concert. In the, first part the songs " Let the tears kiss the flowers on ; iny . grave," new song by Mr Dean ; " Little blue eyes,": Mr Wesley, and "When the birds and blossoms dream," Mr Austin, are the chief features. This part of the programme will wind up with " We're going to name the baby " — a screaming finale. The second part includes Montague's inimitable comic song " I would I were a fly," a song, a dance, and the farce, " The woman . - of a few words." The entertaiiiment is interspersed with conundrums and local allusions. —Mr J. 0. Williamson's " Struck Oil Company" have disbanded at Wellington. Mr Williamson , treated all the members of his company to a picnic at McNab's gardens, when a pleasant day was spent. Mr Williamson's tour has been a great success. As a recognition of the valuable services of Mr H. H. Tincent during the season, Mr Williamson presented that gentleman with a handsome gold chain and locket. Mr Williamson (together with his charming wife) . has gone to Dunedin, where Mr Williamson's opera company hasbeen playing with great success. The production , of "Patience," "Pirates of Penzance," and "Pinafore," have proved to be the best hits ever known in New Zealand. The other members of the company have also * left in different engagements. Mrs Stannyers, Miss :- Solange Navaro, Mr S. O'Brien, Mr E. A. Vernon,returning to Melbourne, whilst Mr H. H. "Vincent, W. H. Seagrave and G-. A. Coleman, left for Sydney per ■ Botorua to fixlfil an engagement with Mr Bland Holt iv , the production of the "World." Although Auckland has not had the pleasure of witnessing Mr and Mrs .' Williamson in " Struck Oil," yet a treat is in store as * that gentleman's opera company will visit this city at no distant date.
