PEOPLE I HAVE KNOWN.
The man who never told a lie in his life — except when he said so.
The man who had never loved. He was too ugly for anything but a female Bosjesman. The man who never owed a shilling — because no one would trust him to that amount.
The man who never read the newspapers — and signed his name with a cross. The man who never missed church — and never put anything in the plate. The man who never did a dirty action in his life — and never tubbed.
The man who never attempted to smoke in Ms life — because he was too bilious and meaii.
The man who never lost his temper — and was horribly sulky. The man who never lost his way — because he had never gone a mile from his birthplace. The man who never forgot a favour — and borrowed all the money he could get. The man who never read the OBSERVER — and he is a howling lunatic at the Whau. The man who had never drunk a glass of beer or spirits in his life — when anybody was looking
The man who didn't care what people said about him— because nobody thought him worth, mentiouing.
