ARATAPU.
We would suggest to a certain resident on Aratapu to take a plan of the Mangawhareroad, as a safeguard against a repetition of the calamity that befel him last week. — Captain S was so elated over his winnings on the Dargaville races that he began to give an engine-driver a preliminary lesson in the art of self-defence. — A private skating party enjoyed a quiet hour in the Choral Hall on last Tuesday afternoon. " Pilly," as per usual, did the amiable for the ladies in carrying their skates. — Among the practical jokers, the chief amusement during the holidays was fastening doorhandles to the gates and resting boards against doors, so that when opened the board would fall inside upon the inmates. — The Glee Club gave the inhabitants of Aratapu a serenade on Christmas Eve. " Softly fall the shades of evening " and " Song of the watchman " were sung very nicely. An old gentleman, who has a strong attachment for the shining dollars, was busy at work making furniture while the club were singing outside his dwelling. Verily, verily, he hath no soul for music. . _ '.
