The combined influence and pevsonal exertions of Messrs A. K. Taylor, Wm. Swauson, M.H.E., Joseph. Ma}, John Bollard, and Wm. Cleghorn, with all the employes of the Star Tannery and ten conveyances, only succeeded in polling 66 votes out of 378 againet Jimmy Dignan at the recent election for a councillor for Whau Biding, Eden County. Jimmy had neither canvassers, scrutineers, conveyances, nor even an Electoral 8011, and was to be seen taking the world Jeasy at the Cattle Fair most of the day.
