THE PRINCES' VISIT.
The Reception and the Deception.
An Exciting Pictorial Drama, magnificently Illustrated by Gustavo Dore.
RECITATIVE. In Auckland now, with silent grief oppvess'd, Her people mourn with sorrow in each breast, Both young and old, of high and low degree, Because the Squadron's ordered to Fiji. 'Twas in Port Jackson's Bay, The British Squadron lay. Each heart was hounding then ; The City Fathers met, A loyal programme set, To please the Upper Ten. The Parnell belles were in high glee, Excitement reigned in Ponsonby, Amongst the wealth and beauty. Along the streets the signal ran, | " Auckland expects that every man That day will do his duty." Alas ! the cable news The noble Mayor received, " We're ordered to Fiji, The Princes you can't see." Now long enough I've filled the chair, This news will drive 'em to despair. Each disappointed beauty, And every gay and festive swell In Ponsonby and in Parnell, Will say this is an awful sell, And we haven't done onr duty.
