— Match between Laycock and Rush on the tapis. — Swanson played a good innings for 41 last Saturday, but the bowling was very easy. — Buckland's bowling for the Auckland Club last Saturday was good. — King's score of 26 was the best in the West End and Carlton match last Saturday. — News from Mercury Bay says that Albert White has been training hard, and is in splendid form. — Colbeck batted well for his fine score of 64 last Saturday. — Barr made a very good catch at long-on last Saturday. — Charlie Bowden played a good innings for 19 in the Otahuhu and Civil Service match. —Lynch and Isaac swelled the West End score by 20 each last Saturday. — Otahuhu is getting up a good team for the match with the Waikato eleven. " Captain Billy " scored his 35 last Saturday with astonishing rapidity. — Brennan took four, and Mooney three, Auckland wickets in the Onehunga match. — Halstead intends to compete in the scullers' race at the Ponsonby Regatta. — There is some talk of Coleman's little sailing boat " Elf" being sailed in the third-class race at the Ponsonby Eegatta by A.lf Warbrick. — Harrison, of Breakwater Road, has received nn order for two four-oared batswings from Farndon, Hawke's Bay. — The " Hattie May" has been excluded from the second-class open-sailing boat race at the Ponsonby Eegatta by the new measurement rule. — A sculling race between Messrs. Yates {Auckland Rowing Club) and Morpeth.(Ponsonby Rowing Club,) is reported to be on the topis. — The "Imp" will be brought down from Eussell next week, and will be sailed in the second-class open-sailing boat race by Moore. — The Alpha Juveniles defeated the Whan Union Cricket Club last Saturday, and all honor to them say I. — A cricket club to be composed of sucking lawyers, nascent authors, and emaciated pedagogues, is on the tapis. \V. J.N. is the promoter. — The brothers Porch, who form the backbone of the Otahuhu Club, are in reality Pakuranga men, and live a considerable distance from Otahuhu. — The Auckland Archery Club had better look to their laurels. Early next season the Eecreation Club intend to challenge them to a friendly trial of skill. — Albert White offers to row any man in New Zealand for £100, either on the Tamaki River, Auckland, or at "Wellington. Perhaps Hearn will come forward now. — Just fancy the Auckland Club putting together 2-17 runs in one innings on Saturday; but please remember at the same time that they were playingagainst Onehunga ! — The North Shore second eleven made 137 against Otahuhu second cloven last Saturday. G. Wynyard 37, and A. Eraser 22, not out, were the tallest scores. — The Devonport boys gave the Otahuhu Cricket Club a terrible dressing down last Saturday. It was grand sport to see how the boys enjoyed the dinner at night. Young C. N. was the life and heart of it. — The final deposit has been made for the race between Messrs. Norwood and Lynas, which comes off to-morrow (Saturday) afternoon, in the Domain. Both men are in steady training. — Bindon's average is showing up. He got 36 last Saturday, and if he keeps up his batting form during the remainder of the season, he will not be far from the head of the list. — A regatta is announced to take place on Lake Rotorna on Saturday April lGfch. Amongst other attractions will be a Maori war canoe race, each canoemanned by 20 natives in their full ancient war costume. — The open sailing boat "Observer" hasbeen overhauled and improved for the second-class race at the Ponsonby Regatta. I suppose her plucky owner intends to make a final effort to wipe the " Madge " out. — The Auckland Cricket Club, failing to get a victoi-y over any of the moderately strong clubs, went to Onehunga last Saturday, and of course succeeded in winning the match. The scores were — Auckland, 247 ; Onehunga, 19 for the loss of eight wickets. — A strong cricketing team is being formed in "Waikato to make a trip to Auckland and play against the various city and suburban clubs. They comprise the best men from the various "Waikato townships, and as they are practising for the match, some interesting tussels may be anticipated. — The refusal of Duncan (Christchurch) torow the match with Albert White for the championship after he had accepted the challenge, has caused considerable disappointment. White was the favourite in. Auckland, and was well backed. — The Rowing Clubs have agreed that in f uture an amateur shall be one who has not rowed against professionals in any race since January, 1881. This will remove the probability of disqualification from Halatead and others. — All the money collected for the Whangarei regatta was only £14, prized as follows : — Boats over 20 feet, £5 ; under 20 feet, £-1 ; ships' gig race, £3 ; dingy race, £2. This was the last race, and the flagship left before the race was over. — The captain of the "Wellington" was very much annoyed that the "Avgyle's" boat won the ships' gig race against the "Wellington's" own two boats at the Whangarei regatta. — The report that the "Hattie May" is to be decked over with canvas and is to compete in the small yacht 'race at the Ponsonby Regatta, is quite true. The boat has been excluded for the race in which the "Madge," '•Imp," and "Observer" compete by new measurement rule. — The sporting community are likely to have a treat shortly.as there is a grand walking match on the tapis between host Gillet, of the Exchange Hotel, Parnell, and champion Mahon of the same place, for £100 a side. Don't be in a hurry to make your bets until the little game is all settled. — Another intending competitor in the race for open sailing boats under twelve feet measurement at the Ponsonby Regatta has made her appearance. She is sixteen feet in length, and was built by W. Holmes, of the North Shore. She was out for a spin last Saturday, and her movements were watched with considerable interest. A large spread of canvass sits well upon her.
