THE CHRISTMAS PRIZES.
THE drawing for the Observer's Christmas Prizes took place at this office on Friday evening last, in the presence of a committee, consisting of Messrs. M. Gallagher, H. E. Handley, R. Armstrong, N. Woods, R. Marsdon, and a number of those who had sent in coupons. The issue of the paper for the week ending January Ist was proved to be 4000, and the number of envelopes sent in, 2700. These contained no less than 3483" coupons, which were carefully folded into pellets of similar size, and placed in one of the sweep boxes. The operation occupied twelve persons from a quarter past seven till half-past eight, at which time the sweep was drawn. The following is the result : — Ist Prize, Diamond and Ruby Ring, Mrs. E. Kelly, Wakefield-street, Auckland, 2nd Prize, Society at Home, Miss A. Thompson, Carlton Gore-road, Auckland. 3rd Prize, Half-dozen Sherry, H. Mahston, care of Mrs. Ellis, Wellesley-street, Auckland. 4th Prize, Two Bottles Champagne, Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson, Wellington • street, Axickland.
