HIGH SCHOOL BOARD
Present:. Mr. E. N. 'Miter (in the chair), - Messrs. Lucas, Rowe, ' Derrick, Burns, Claxton, Scott and Adams. 'PARENTS' REPRESENTATIVES Messrs. E. F. Adams and J. lvuwu have< baeux nominated and elected -as the parents' representatives on the Board. The Mayor welcomed Ma\ Adams as a- u*sw member of the Board. CQRJtESPONDEKCE. The Education Department wrote - with, reference to the Board's application for a grant to the cost of improving and adding to the schoolgrounds estimated at £2000 saving that a grant oi half the cost uo to £1000 had been made by the Government for that purpose, and S at*X£ Val °f a furth6r «P*wKtu» of £1000 under the proviso to Sec. ,«b of the Education. Act. had b&m ; given. The works, were under stood to include the acquisition of and the levelling and laying out of the ground, and the necessary fenc- ; "H?. Some 50 pupils had left the school owing t o the last train alterations, and fou.had left owing to the parents movmg to other districts. The town peopl© had been mo<t, ' iduringi the train altera tions, and all the pupils requiring board had been able to obtain temporary hom.es. Miss Blacker took up her duties at the beginning of the,month.'''. No reply-was received to the last advertisement for an assistant master at a salary of £250 a year, . and so they are stall short-staffed. Miss M. Polton, one of lasb year's best' pupils, had been assisting for about half-time during the past two weefks, and could; obstinue to do s o for a while. V ' !
