Waihi v. Thames i .The annual fixture, Waihi v. \ Thames, -was played at Dodd's paddock on Saturday, and proved a fast aiod interesting game. , The field was in very good order, and the. first half of the men's mateh 1 ..was played in ideal wea.th.eir conditions, ■while, ■the second was marred by the rain. In consequence the field ■became slippery, but the* gam© was continued till time in all earnestness. LADIES MATCH. The ladies' match proved most ■interesting. Waihi had the better of the game in' the first spell, and shot three goals. Roie McLean did good-play out on the wing', while the other wing, Eunice Adams, did not get much work to do. Esme Caisley was the best of the halves and the backs, Laurel Gordon and Daisy Caisley, were good. The goal-' keeper, Bella Keith, was the team's tower of strength, and repeatedly ( saved the Thames defence. j The second spell was more ' even, I though,, Waiihi' s dashing forwards ] attacked again and aain, taking the ball dangerously near the Thames 1 goal. . In the late stages of th© ( game, Miss Blacker shot a goal for Thames, and the score ended, Waihi 3; Thames'.!. ' Mr. Griffin was referee. ! GENTLEMEN'S'. MATCH. The initial bully was worn by Thames, and Buchan (inner wing) n.adie for the goal. The shoot, wus a good one, bat the Waibi goalkeeper saved. From the corner hit Waihi attacked, but did not pass the Thames halves. A fine hit for Thames drove the ball well into the Waihi circle again,. One of the; Waihi backs brought the ball clear, and a pass out to the Waihi wing earned' play to the other end of the field. : C. Wiggins (full-back, Thames), took the ball .out to Kingham (wing)''and with good; passing, escaping the Waihi sticks, play was agaia in Wash'i*s circle. After a quarter bully '\<& free hit for Waihi was stopped •%, Danby (centre half). A Waihi player gave a. hard clearing shot, but for sticks, Thames took a free hit. Brokenshire (centre forward), stopped the ball, and from the circle line, 'shot a goal. The second bully opened with good give and take play. R. Judd stopped_ja_rush by the Waihi forwards, but WaaTu' getting warmed up tor the game, for a while kept play about the centre <rf. the field. A hard 1 drive from G. Warn© (half), to clear saw a quarter "bully at the 1 Waihi end. The Waihi left inner : playing well with the outer, approached the Thames goal in good style, but the shiot jusfa missed! the " net. For the next; few minute* [ there were some igood play by botli " teams, and several free, hits, mainlj \ for off-side. Stopping the bal from a, free hit (Waihi), B. Clendor 1 (half)? passed to Buchan and out tc Kingham (wing), who with a hare shoot, scored another goal foi Thames. From, the third bully Waihd lef ■ forwards started a sprint for th< ' goal, which was stopped by R. Jud< t (back). S. Judd, (outer forward passed in to Brokerashire, who again found' the net fo-r Thames. From the bully Buchanr playej - well, and made a good attempt nat goal. From the quarter bull} 6 Gunn passed into Brokenshire, wbc ,t hit past the corner of the goal Another quarter bully found Waihi pressing baaxi for the goal, bul their attiacks each time were stop - ped by either R. Judd or C. Wigi,b gin's. -S. Judd, firom a tussle' ot it the wing, attempted a goal, -, buH it missed by a, fraction! of an inch. The t n whistle for half time went, with play in the middle of the field. After half-time the game coiaal tinued in iavouir: of Thames, and is for the 1 most part (play/was in the E. Waihi circle.- Once out. 1 in the d } field 1 there was hard hitting by both ip sides, amd all bait the Thames goalkeeper were kept busy. Once when - play was in the Waihi circle Gunn found an opening, and shot a goal, running the Thames score upl to 4. i From the bully-off Waihi made several determined efforts to score, and at last were rewarded by a successful shot. The Thames forwards made a good ci showing, and after good play .on ;e' Kingham's wins', Bulehan sfoti an--ss' other goal for Thames. ■' The remainder of the spell showed Thames on the offensive, The whistle went with the score: ""■ Thames 5, Waihi 1.
