Moved and seconded that the position of the floodgate to be put in the Thames Valley outlet! drain in the Central Area be left entirely in the hands of the area member, Mr,, R. Baker, with Ml power and authority to act and decade the matter, but that the Board expressed a preference that the gates should go in at the mouth of the draini. The foreman's report on loam and maintienance works completed'during tihe month, andl progress made, was received amd adopted, the saime dis , closing that good progress was | being f-made notwithstanding the cti/fficulfcies which were 'being en- ; couinsfcered with some of the floodgates. : It was decided to call tenders for the sale of culvert pipes not requir- \ ed in the Monganui area, and! that notices 'he put up to the effect! that tenders would be received for the, same 'by the Board's foreman until Thursday, July 24, to close at the Turua Post Office on. that day. Moved that Mr. Maude be informed that the Board considered it would be necessary for him to put in three foot culvert pipes at his gateway. The foreman was instructed to in spect the damage done to the Willow drain 1 by Mr. Ambury's cattle, andl assess the cost of same, and. that Mr. Ambury be called <uipon, to pay the same, failing which the 'Board would? carry out the work aaid remove* the dosti from: himi. The cilerfc was also instructed 1- /to claim from Messrs. Bagmall Bros., ■ ferea, thie, diaariage hlasviiiiig beeoi dlone on the Jubilee outlet drain, Turua area, the damage hafing ibeen done by cattle owing to t&e non^fencing of the draiw. Resolved that Mr. Porxitt be written to calling his attention! to the damage which might' be \ done to the No. 3' Drain, Mongapui area, which rani through his property as a result of the guard fence ibeinig broken down and ineffective, andl • that if he. would put the iposta on the ground the Board would re^erect the fence and repair the same to'protect the drain with the two wires that were now laying on the ground 1. Mr. J. Bennett waited on the Board as a deputation, with reference to the improving of the roadsidle drain on the south side of the Ngatipua East road, aa unless the i same were deepened the whole of the drains on his farm would 'be practically useless as "they were so constructed! to have am outlet to this drain, and he asked the Board j to either carry; out this wort or make & contribution to him to have the same carried out. Moved! that the Board .make a contribution to Mr. Bennett of £12 towards the cost of making the i™.provenieutj to the drain for a distance of about 40 chains on condi-! tion that the drain be not less; than ; a ] yard drain when completed, and | that the work be carried out to the satisfaction of the Board's foreman, but that this would be done only on the distiinoti understanding that the Board would be in no way responsible for the maintenance of the drain! mi the future. The clerk was authorised if* procure extra clerical assistance for five or seven weeks owing to pressure of wofrik brought about by thie delay in the Classification List of, the Board, being finally ratified by, the *'-nagfiistirlattie. ."'". Moved ithat the financial statement as- pi"«sented! to' ihe Boasrd' by the clerk be approved, which disclosed a, very satisla'icltary ''" state of the financial position of the Board. Mr. H. §, Wright, ohairmaii of th© Board, handed! in his resignation owing !to his leaving the district. . Moved that the same be accepted ' with regret; Mr. H. A. Mills tendered hie resignation as a trusteei of the Board, owing to" hi» leaving the district, this being accepted with regret. Resolved that the Board place on record its very high appreciation of the services rendered by the retiring chairman, Mr. Wright, for his untiring effort* on the districts behalf, and the manner in which he had carried out the functions of his office whilst chairman of the Board. Resolved that the Board wished to place on record its high appreciation of the' services rendered by , the retiring trustee, Mr H. A*. Mills, to the- Board, and) for his valuable; ■advice and assistance era ,• financial and othermatters, and the time and n attention he had 'giveni to the J Board's affairs. Mr. Geo. Gray nominated Mr. R. Baker, but Mr. Baker respectfully declined to act. Mr. Baker nominated! Mr. Geo. Gray, whicin was seconded by xMr Heappy and carried, Mr. Gray being duly elected to the onTce of chairman of the Board. Mr. Gray then took 1 the chair. The five debentures for the No. 2 drainage loan having been received {norn the State Advance Office, the same were placed before the Board and it was resolved 1 that the common seal of the Board! be authorised -to be affixed: to such debentures numbered one to five respectively for £1000 each, and the chairman and treasurer be authorised to sign and counter-sign the earn©. The returning officer was instructed to take the necessary stepsi to immediately fill the vacancies on? the Board.
