On tlio resurcqytion of the coal vend caKO counsel foi- the Commonwealth made a statement on behalf of Mi' Hughes in connection with his Adelaide speech. Mr Hughes claimed ha did not say anythingl, in contempt of Court or anything that could in any way prejudice the defendants. He did not admit he mado any refeircncies to the case otbenvisto than his opinion, which was justifiable. At the same time he gave an assw.inca hid would not publicly comment on-the case t'll the Court had given its decision upon it. Mr "Wheeler, manager of the Newcastle Wiallsend mine, who stood out of the vend., his? objection being he wag bound to sell coal to. certain steamship owners only, evidenced that before the vend was formed the 1 ~f bis mine was! 150,000' tons +*'ade'.
