KEiW MEfTHOD OF HANDLING. ADOPTED FOfH NEIW ZEALAND. A now system of handiling goods for transport on the railways of the Dominion -will be brought into operation by the Department of Railways on May Ist. It will greatly relieve the shortage of trucks, which has been a long-standingl source of inconvenience, and it will also obviate many delays in the transport of small consignments. Instead of sending out small parcels the new method means the afcioumuliftion of Consignments for stations with little good traffic for transport on t\v< thi-tee, four, or fivfe days of the week, according! to the amount of traffic. Goods will ibe received 1 at the principal stations fin- any specified station on certain days of thci Week, and forwarded on the following days. Tha consignors will knolw on which days their consiginmiaiits must be delivered, and the consignors will also ba informed, as to the days' on which their orders will be fulfilled by delivery by rail. It is believed that the syJbem will be of benefit to the merchant and his cftiErtotners, especially in the assurance which it affords of less delay ; n transit, and of quicken* delivery. It will not openate in the ciase of n consignment amounting to a truck loadi, which will be sent forward on any clay of the week. The details of the system, have bsen carefully planned for the Auckland district., and within a. few days a, circular will be issued to all consignors by the district' traffic manager, sietting o>ut the days for re>ceiving goods for all stations in the district.
