Mi' Griffiths., the Minister of Works, officially started the Government briuk works at Home Bush Bay. He siaid the Government's policy was to enable the people to obtain things necessary for their welfare at reason able rate*. If the price of 'bricks in Sydney was not brought down within a reasonable proportion, then the Government Would go further than making bricks for its own use andi undertake to supply the general pu'Mia at a reasonable price. The Government had the necessary l'etjpect for private enterprisie. but when private emterpriso .became publici spoliation then it Was time that the Government took akition in the interests' of the people. STho Minister spoke of prep;irations for' making- a. largely extended plant, to produce "all' the bricks required.
Tlie Goiviemn-ient supei-intendent of woifcj stated that he would be able to supply bricks a,t 20s per thousand.
