Tlio Education Boardl has issued to its teachers a circular drawing their particular attention to tha fact that it is now provided by law that uhildretn between the ago of seven years and fourteen are: *required to havci their names enrolled on the' registerl of aomo pulbiic school and to attend tliet school whenever it is open The operation of tho Act is mandatory and not optional. Jsbitliea" School Committees nor teachers have any powor to ignoro tho Act which regulate thd attendance of childrenl at tho public schools of the Dominion. Tho grounds of exemption set forth in the Act are. (jl) distance* from residenca to school or from residence to railway is more than two milelsi for children under 10, and! three miles in any other* case; (2) under regular and efficient instruction elsewhere; (3) sickness, danger of infection, so<vtere stress of weather, sudden and serious illness of parent or other sufficient cause; (4) has reached the standard of exemption. Efficient instruction must bio in accordance with t-lw reg'uila.tions and must be where ft is subject to inspection uudter the Act.
