The American Silver Mines.

The following interesting figures from the big silver, mines of the Western States of America go to show the unusual wealth which has been won in silver mining, even upon small average yields as compared to those in the silver mines of Australia:—

The Ontario S.M. Co., Utah, has sinoe 1866, to Dec, 1884, produced 147,608 tons of ore of an average value of £19 14s per ton; dividends were declared of a total value of £1,210.000. ; I«8t ytir the mine gave twelve monthly dividends of £15,000, or * total of £180,000.

Horosilver mine, also in Utah, from Feb., 1876, to Dec, 1884, produced 310,000 tons of ore, of an average value of £10 3s per ton. The total dividends have been £800,000. Last year the value •f the ore raised was £466,750, giving four dividends of £60,000 eaoh.

The Crescent mine, Park City, Utah, in 1888,, sold 11,574 tons of ore at £6 a ton. The total cost of railing, including dead work at the mine, was £3 7s 2d. In 1884 the mine produced 12,748 tons, which was also sold at a gross average price of £3 7s «|d per ton, leaving a profit orer coat of raising of £1 6s Id per ton.

The Richmond Consolidated, Eureka, Nevada (held entirely in London), having a capital of £270,000, has given to its shareholders up to June, 1885, in dividends £808.517. The profit for 1883-84 was £30,146, and for 1884 85 £35.667. The average gross yield of the ore raised last year was £10 7s 3d por ton. The expense of mining in 1883-84 averaged £3 5s 6d per ton, and in 1884-85 £2 7s per ton. Sraeltiog charges during the former year averaged £2 7s per ton, and for the latter £2 Is Bd. per ton, :

The Golden Crown in 1884 produced 9921 tons of rough ore, the average value of which was £25 12s per ton. During same year the Colorado Smelt* ing Works purchased from various mines 7485 tons of ore, which yielded silver and lead to the value of £101,643, : The Great Comstook lode produced in. 20 years, up to 1884, £36,000,0C0 in silver and £29,000,000 in gold, and of these enormous sums £24,000,000 was paid away in dividends.
