[To the Editor of the Erening Star.] Sir,—Can yon inform me how it is that the Committee of the Thames Hospital at its meeting on Monday decided not to accept the lowest tender for batcher's meat P I am aware that the probable reply will be that complaints had at times been made, bat according to the Presi reports those complaints were general and against all the contractors, including the purveyor of meat; and yet we find that in regard to groceries the mattar it referred to the House Committee to calculate and accept the lowest tender* which may, for ought we know, be that of the old contractor. What aots in one way for one should do in like manner for another. It is a difficult matter to supply from year's end to year's end a number of sick people, whose tastes are various and whose sufferings make then crotchety, without some complaints being made of one kind or. another. I an entrusted with the supply of meat to another public institution where the inmates are all healthy, and where complaints, were there any reason for such, would most certainly bo made, as the whole internal economy of that institution is under the direct supervision of the matron, who is a thoroughly competent Judge of the quality of the various goods supplied. I also think it would have loked better had the tenders been accepted by a full Comtnitt :e than after one or two adjournments, when the meeting had been considerably thinned.—l am, <fee, E. Batsman.
