CHRISTCHURCH.

Last night. Dr Nedwill's stables have been destroyed by fire. The horses were saved with difficulty, but several vehicles were burnt; the property was insured in the New Zealand office for £250.

Considerable interest is being taken here in the matter of the dead band picked up on Sumner beach last Wednesday. Though a ring upon it has been identified as that of Howards, who was drowned on October 10th, the life in suranee offices interested have not yet paid the amount of the policy to the widow. Howard was insured for between £2000 and £3000 in various offices, including the Government. A large number of medical men have seen the hand, in order to give an opinion as to the time that has elapsed since death. An inquest is to be held at 3 p.m. to morrow.
