Two prominent Victorian metallicians arrived by the s.s. Botomahana this morning, viz., Mr J. E. McNaughton and Mr M. Solomon. Mr M. Gallagher has received a letter from Mr J. G. JJeeble, stating that he and the great scalier Beach intend paying Auckland a visit in February nest. The* two-year-old colt Silver Prince arrived here by the Botomahana this morning. At a meeting of the committee of the Auckland Racing Club, the disqualification of the jockey W. White by the Can terbury Jockey Club, was endorsed. The committee, however, considered from statements made by several members of the Auckland Baring Club who were present, that the jockey was badly treated.
Victory has been backed for the Cup for £500 at ICO to 5. The following are the quotations on the Cup :—5 to 2 Stoneyburat; 3to 1 Tasman ; Bto 1 Foul Shot; 12 to 1 Turquoise. The others are unchangeb.
This day. Training Notes. . Some interesting work was done at Ellerslie this morning. The Cup favorite, Stoneyhurst, was sent twice round at a strong pace ; and Nelson and Wapiti (in company) were treated to a similar task. Tasm in, after going once round slow, was picked up by Blarney, and then brought home by the two year old colt Musk Hose; Tasman went freely and well. Turquoise and Derringer (in clothing) were treated to slow work, and Badames and Mu*k—the three-year-old colt by Musket—Perfume—were sent a strong gallop of a mile and a half. Necklace did serviceable work iv company with the jumper King ; Foul Shot, in company with Tetford, was sent over the Cup distance at a strong pace ; and Capsize and Alpine Eose worked in company, both going well. Waitiri went three times round at a medium pace ; and her stable companion, Christina, did serviceable work. The jumpers, Maccaruni and Medico, were sent twice round at a medium pace; and Wood nymph merely cantered in company with Revolver. The other work done was unimportant.
Chkistchuhch, Laat night. 'I be weather was magnificent to-day, and fully 3000 people were at the Caledonian sports in Lancaster Park, the Governor being amongst those present. The 5-mile walking handicap was won by D. Libeau (scratch), in 35 mins. 18 sees. The menagerie race was a fiasco, there being only two competitors—a cat and goat; the former won. The s«mile bicycle handicap was won by C. Eeece (50yards) in 15mins. SOsecs. A boy, 12 years old, named Kobert Thompson, of Oamaru, carried off the prize for the sailor's hornpipe, beating half a-dozen men.
The popular J sports at Hagley Park were very successful, 6000 people being present, C, Hulston (scratch, won the 100 yards in lOseos., and Libeau won the 2-mile walking match.
