To-dax was appointed for recpiving nominations for the office of Mnyor of Thames f or the ensuing year, and at twelve o'clock the Returning Officer, Mr F. R. Gr. Woodward, announced that as the only nomination received was that of Wm. Eraser, that gentleman was declared duly elected. This uiak?s the fourth consecutive year of Mr Fraser'a occupation of office. Mrs Berne, who waa to have eung " Lights of London," was unforluuately suffering from a severe cold, and on tbat account was unable to take part in the concert. Bkveuali complaints have bean made to us to day of the number of articles taken, probably by mistaVo, from the Academy of Maaio last evening, and advertisements tbcreanent appear in another column. The second section of the Wealeyan Church being removed by. Mr McAndrow will be on its ground in the section at the corner of Pollen and Mary streets, it is expected, to«morrovr evening. The work of removing the building has boon expeditiouely and well carried out. We regret to have to record the fact of Mr George Denby's shop having been closed today, owing to the illness of that gentleman and eevcral members of bis family from the epidemic now prevailing hero, which is gene« rally designated " Fiji fever." The shop will be-open to-morrow. Ybbtebday morning a fire broke out in Rutton and Fisher's timber yard in Dunedin, but the damage was confined to a portion of the machinery.
